My Week on Instagram: 10 - 16 June 2013

10 June 2013

I mentioned in my previous Week On IG post that I went to Legoland, so here are some more pictures of Legoland!

These musical instruments are really pretty and I love how they're placed in a fountain. The fountain really features music too - when we walked past, music from the different instruments (e.g. violin, harp, drums etc) were being played. It was really cute!

Part of Asia Fashion Exchange (Singapore's fashion week), Blueprint is an annual tradeshow that curates menswear, womenswear and accessories from the best and brightest emerging talents in Asia.

How To Be A Discerning Cosmetics Consumer

Since I started CherchezBeaute.com, I've learnt a lot about skincare, make up and other cosmetic products. I've learnt to differentiate between true and false claims, and look past some of the hype of a product. Far too many people take a product's claims at face value and tout the product based on its own advertisements. I'm sure readers would be sorely disappointed if they bought the product based on such reviews and it did not live up to their expectations.

Today I'd like to share with you 7 tips on how to be a discerning cosmetics consumer. I use these pointers every time I'm thinking of buying a product so that I can make better choices without breaking the bank and buying every hyped-up product in the market.

Watsons (Taman Maluri Jusco) Haul

And today, I proudly present my haul from F.O.S. (at Viva) and Watsons and Daiso (at the Taman Maluri Jusco)! Just like yesterday's haul, I have no idea why today's haul isn't that fantastic - I just didn't like most of the things I saw. Am hoping that tomorrow will be different. I still have to hit Times Square and Sungei Wang before I head back to Singapore, so I'm crossing my fingers on being able to get better hauls in the next few days. Full haul post and more pictures after the jump!

Watsons (Suria KLCC) Haul

Just a quick haul post to show you what I bought from Watsons at Suria KLCC today. Pardon the grainy quality and bad lighting of the photos; it was really late at night. Full haul post and more pictures after the jump!

Penguin Books Expo Sale 8-10 June 2012 Haul Post

Here's my haul from the Penguin Books Expo sale, which is held once every 3 years. I spent a total of S$ 41 for 4 books, which works out to S$10 per book! What a fantastic deal. I managed to buy books that I have been eyeing for a while, so it was a great field day for my literary side.

Watsons Private Member Sale (30 May 2012) Haul Post

Yesterday, Watsons held a private sale for its members from 12 noon-11pm at 26 of its outlets. I was alerted by the EDM that arrived in my inbox, and headed down to the Watsons store at Causeway Point (Woodlands) to check it out with my mom. We came back with a huge haul! I only took pictures of my half of the haul though. Check out close-ups after the jump!

Shopping at Daiso: Haul post of bargain buys and pretty prints

I've shopped at Daiso, the budget chain store originating from Japan, much too often to count. This post is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how much I've spent on things from Daiso. From stationery to skin care products to nail polish and gardening equipment - Daiso has it all.

I started shopping for stationery at Daiso because of the wonderful variety of paper products and letter writing sets they carried for a mere 2 SGD each. In fact, everything sold there is only 2 SGD. Affordable? Yes. Of good quality? That depends. Up till now I still haven't gotten around to buying any Daiso skincare products. 2 SGD for something that goes on my face? Nuh-uh, I'm no skincare snob, but I have my reservations. The nail polish is not too bad, but some of them look very icky in the bottle, so I buy Daiso nail polish very sparingly.

Anyway, today I'll like to share with you some of the products I bought from Daiso recently. For 2 SGD apiece, these lovely little things are sure to brighten anyone's day!

Featured: Kwerkee.com - Your Daily Design Sauce

The queer, the peculiar, the bizarre... for up to 70% off! Me gusta.

Reebonz, the popular local online shopping portal, has just rolled out another of its initiatives. The last I heard, Reebonz City, a Reebonz sub-portal which featured lifestyle, food and entertainment deals, is ceasing operations. A moment of silence for Reebonz City, please. I still remember with great fondness the free pair of tickets to Korean flick The Housemaid (2010), the excellent lunch/tea for two at the Heart Bistro (formerly located at Palais Renaissance) and the make up workshop conducted by Guerlain in 2011, all of which were enabled by Reebonz City. It certainly contributed to my memories of the past 2 years with my loved ones, and I'll be sad to see it go.

In lieu of Reebonz City, Reebonz presents a quirky kwerkee new addition to the Reebonz family. Looking for interesting knick-knacks? Craving some hard-to-find design pieces and everything else arty farty? Kwerkee has them all. If that doesn't sound tempting enough, everything at Kwerkee is featured at up to 70% off retail prices. And with that, I'm in already.

No, literally. I'm able to login to Kwerkee without creating a new account because this convenient feature is a privilege extended to existing Reebonz members! I was quite excited and immediately went in to explore the site. The Kwerkee portal works in the same way as Reebonz, with a list of current campaigns that you can enter to purchase items featured, and a list of future campaigns that you can schedule onto your calendar. Each item is listed with clear pictures, a description, the current and original price, as well as a 100% guarantee of authenticity. The only caveat for a college student like me is the price, which tends to be on the steeper side, as expected of designer items.

Currently, there are four campaigns open: Neivz wooden jewellery, Mimobot designer USB flash drives, artwork from Polish-American illustrator Marta Spendowska and Lady Gaga inspired t-shirts and accessories! If that doesn't sound awesome enough for you, upcoming campaigns starting on this Wednesday (18 April) and Friday (20 April) include N2 luxury costume jewellery, typeface products (this is where I squee), something to do with cute and creepy monsters, and quirky stationery. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new campaigns that Kwerkee has in store for us (pun fully intended). I'll definitely review any products that I purchase and receive them from Kwerkee, so watch this space!

... Well, what are you waiting for? Just sign up already!

Malaysia Haul Part II

Wow this is really backdated. I found it in my drafts and figured I should just post it anyway.

---

So, Part I's done and now for the mega haul in Part II of my Malaysian shopathon. (Shopathon. I like that word.)

I went to Berjaya Times Square in December 2011 and had a whopping haul of Bloop de Paris, Elianto, Etude House, Sasatinnie and Sally Hansen nail polishes.

Bloop de Paris is an interesting brand I've heard of, but never got the chance to try. By some coincidence, I saw this counter of Bloop de Paris nail polishes going for 9.90 RM each, with 50% off the 2nd bottle. I got 6 shades:

From left: H525, H174, H138, H140, H202, H201

Here are pictures of 5 of them - enlarge them to see the pretty glitters and shades after the jump!

Malaysia haul Part I

Greetings all from Malaysia! Sorry for the lack of updates - I've been shopping, eating and resting well for 2 days and almost don't want to do anything but that. However, I thought of all of you and decided to share the spoils. Let's check the damage done thus far... after the jump!
